BlogCatchy Titles: Why Are they Important?

Catchy Titles: Why Are they Important?

A catchy headline has always been a critical element of marketing. Many books have managed to sell well due to their catchy titles. With the ever increasing competition, and growing saturation in the market, the title is what will grasp attention of your audience. You heading needs to grab your audience’s attention the instant they see it.

Need for an Attractive Heading

The basic elements of a title are the simple. It should reflect the genre of the content. It should not appear dry or boring.

Simple and short headings are easier to remember. Consider the title of Michelle Obama’s book: Becoming. One word long. Yet, the reader can easily deduce that the book is an autobiography of the US’s 45th First Lady. Contrary, lengthy titles could be irritating to some, like the movie Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. The title is unnecessarily long, especially for a movie. Most of the people do not even remember the full name of the movie.

Titles for your Online Content!

However, content on the internet is quite different from books and movies. 5 minute craft, the world famous craft’s channel, comes up with titles that work around YouTube’s logarithm. A strong title, however, communicates that your website has the data the readers are searching for, while also helps you to stand out from the plethora of websites and content material available on the internet.

You need to remember, that the title is the first thing a visitor will read. Unlike books where you can read the plot, or movies where we have trailers to judge the content, the website is mostly dependent on the article’s title. Even for social media posts, and other marketing materials, the content title is of gross significance.

Clarity and Accuracy in your Title

Many bloggers have resorted to click bait. It draws readers’ attention and drives them to click on your page. The other side of the story is that it will break trust that is in nascent stage with your readers. The headline should be clear. Make sure it portrays your content accurately.

Using Simple Language

Sometimes, new bloggers try to show off by using flowery vocabulary. Sure, it shows your language skills. But we need to formulate a title from the reader’s point of view. If they do not understand the title, how will they know the link contains the information they are looking for.  Spellings should be accurate. Avoid grammatical errors as it displays fake bloggers.

Grab Attention through a Promise

Show your readers in your title that you are offering them something valuable. Then deliver on it through your content. Do not over sell your promise. It should be relatable and believable. Consider the following aspects:

  • Is it worth the reader’s time?
  • Will it help them in personal matters?
  • Is it helpful for their business?
  • Does it help them learn a new skill?
  • Make an Attention-Grabbing Promise

The above mentioned headings include numbers. It gives off a feeling of a checklists. Lists are popular and readers get a hunch that they will get accurate information delivered easily. Numbers lets the readers know what information they can aspect from the content. It shows that the creator is going to make clear points, without beating around the bush.

On the other hand, consider the following headlines:

How to Achieve Healthy Life Style?

5 Ways for a Healthier Life Style?

Both headlines are trying to sell the same content. However, the first one does not specifiy the steps you need to follow. It is rather vague on how it will be possible to achieve a healthier lifestyle, and appears verbose.
The second headline is brief. It commits to five ways. Five is an easier number to achieve. A reader will be inclined to hit the second link, because it seems an easier way for a person who does not has much time on their hands. The number 5 also shows that the content will not be needlessly long.

Use Catchy Keywords in the Headlines

Earlier I mentioned you should avoid using flamboyant vocabulary. It does not mean that you should avoid using catchy words to attract readers. Using strong words can bring the reader to you. You can find these keywords online. Or you can refer to the list below:

  • Principles
  • Facts
  • Lessons
  • Reasons
  • New
  • Effortless
  • Amazing
  • Ideas
  • Ways
  • Need
  • Free
  • Guaranteed
  • Practical
  • Easy
  • Alternate
  • Tricks
  • Tips

These words highlight the content of the post. For instance, “5 Tricks to Achieve a Healthier Lifestyle”. The title shows that there are a few tricks that you can include in your daily routine for better health. Similarly, the heading, “6 Tips for a beautiful Hairdo”, implies that you do not need a professional’s help, or professional tools for your hairstyles. “Tips” can help you bypass professional training, and allow you to work on your hair seamlessly.

Optimize for FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)

Another way you can attract audience to your website is inducing the fear of missing out. It is not as brutal as it sounds. No one wants to be left outside of the loop. Appeal to the audience by titles such as, “Sale open till stock Lasts”, “Only 1 hour left, till the Website Goes Private”. Such titles draws people’s attention and they are inclined to use your content, or buy your product to remain above others.

Conclusion

Do not judge a book by its cover, but judge a website by its title. A wisely formulated title can bolster likes and increase traffic on your website. It can also stir conversation, and help you generate audience through leads.
